Comparing Memberships: Executive vs Business vs Gold Star

Both the Gold Star Membership and Business Membership can be purchased for $60 per year and both can be upgraded to the Executive Membership to get the added 2% Reward and additional savings on Costco services.

There is not much of a downside to getting a Business Membership compared to the Gold Star Membership as long as you qualify. The main downside is needing to bring in a few more documents when applying.

You also can still access Costco Business Center locations with your standard personal membership so don’t feel like you are missing out on too much!

Use the calculator below to determine if the 2% cash back from the Executive Upgrade is worth it at your current spending level. If you are unsure or don’t currently shop at Costco remember that Costco has a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their memberships.

That means if you get your cash back and it is less than the $60 upgrade fee you can downgrade to a Gold Star or Executive Membership and be refunded the difference. Of course the 2% back isn’t the only perk of the Executive upgrade but it is a easy way to see that it is at least paying for itself. If you use other Costco Services be sure to take into account any Executive discounts you may be getting with those.
